Editorial Policy & Standards
This policy explains the standards guiding reporting, interviews, opinion and multimedia published by The Study Abroad Monitor.
Accuracy and verification
- Verify significant claims with primary documents, on-record reporting or reliable independent sources wherever possible.
- Distinguish confirmed facts from estimates, allegations and analysis.
- Identify the date and jurisdiction for time-sensitive visa, immigration, scholarship and university information.
- Use a source-based methodology and limitations for data stories; correct numerical mistakes prominently.
Independence and conflicts
Editorial decisions must remain with the editorial team. Advertising, sponsorships, partner relationships or potential exhibitor relationships do not guarantee coverage. Material affiliations are disclosed when relevant.
Fairness and right of reply
When publishing material allegations about a named university, recruiter, consultancy or individual, seek a fair response where practicable, provide adequate time and accurately represent that response. Avoid naming a private student without appropriate consent and a clear public-interest justification.
Student interviews and consent
Explain where a guest’s words, image, video and clips may appear. Obtain informed, documented consent. Give special care to minors, immigration status, personal documents and vulnerable sources.
Opinion and sponsored material
Label opinion, analysis, advertising and paid partnerships so readers do not mistake them for independent reporting. Editorial staff should not accept undisclosed payment for coverage.
Use of AI
Human editors remain responsible for every published claim. Verify AI-assisted outputs, do not invent quotes or sources, and disclose material use of synthetic media or AI-generated imagery where it could mislead readers.
Corrections
Requests for corrections are considered on evidence. Significant corrections should be disclosed clearly in the article so readers can understand what changed.
These editorial standards apply to reporting, interviews, analysis and other content we publish. Substantive factual errors will be reviewed and corrected when verified.
Editorial oversight
Mushfique Rahman — Editor. The Editor provides editorial direction and oversight of our reporting standards, source checks, fairness and review of corrections. See the Editorial Team page.
